Critic Turnaround: Letter Written by a Literary Historiography Student Justifying Her Refusal in Reading a Novel

The article presents a letter written by a student in the Literary Historiography course at the Escola de Letras at Unirio, who refused to continue reading a novel that was unbearable for her. Engaging with the student's approach to the novel, the article serves as a response to the letter, raising questions and interrogations about my own academic and pedagogical practices. It reflects on how we deal with totalizing representations in theoretical frameworks that are still associated with racism and sexism. It develops a discussion on violence in the academic environment, presenting what could be defined as a disruptive proposal for a literature undergraduate program, considering the expansion of contemporary literary and artistic forms and the complex tension that permeates existence within public universities.
