This article reflects on the modern Arabic verse sought in our translation into Brazilian Portuguese, sometimes less close to literalness and more attentive to the tones of expression of the vernacular. The translated poems are “The tribes”, “Guards” and “An officer”, by the Palestinian poet Mourid Barghouti (1944-), and “You know how much we love you”, “It's not your fault” and “Bats” are the poems by the Palestinian Samih al-Qasim (1939-2014).
