There is an Increasing "Informallzatlon" In the central economies, which coincides with the persistence of this type of employment In developing counties. This phenomenon, alternatively called "Informal sector", "underground economy" or "small production", shows that the corresponding actlvrtles can no longer be considered a locus of atanctional labor (e.g. disguised unemployment or a non-capltallst form of production. Those activities occur within both poor and rich economies where capitalism Is highly developed, This article presents the small production as a set of activities producing specific goods and services, organized according to a survival strategy of the labor force affected by the limitations of the formal labor market It Is suggested that those limitations are caused both by conjuncture factors, such as the recession In the 'SOs, and by longer term trends related to changes in the technical basis of production. They Imply that employment and production policies should recognize this sector as a permanent component of the economy and adjustto it
