Demografia e economia numa região distante dos centros dinâmicos: uma contribuição ao debate sobre a escravidão em unidades exportadoras e não exportadoras

Abstract

This paper studies the presence of slave labor in export and non-export farms and in the local market for bondsmen in Bananeiras, a country in the "agreste" region of Parayba do Norte province. We have subdivided the populations of slaveholders and bondsmen according to economic sector (sugar-cane, cotton and manioc/cattle raising units) and size os slave holding (small, medium and large) in order to quantify the buying and selling of bondsmen in local commercial activities. The aim of this paper is to know to what extent bondsmen were transferred from non-export to export units and vice-versa.
