Uma crítica das estimativas da elasticidade de substituição obtidas para a indústria de transformação

Este trabalho discute problemas de interpretação encontrados no decorrer de uma tentativa de estimar a elasticidade de
substituição de uma função do tipo CES — elasticidade de substituição constante — com base nas condições de primeira ordem para a maximização do lucro da firma, tendo-se utilizado dados da indústria brasileira de transformação, ao nível de dois dígitos. Esse experimento foi feito com a finalidade de avaliar a esta habilidade das estimativas já existentes. Os resultados derivados da argumentação teórica desenvolvida e dos experimentos realizados mostram que conclusões usualmente obtidas com esse tipo de enfoque podem ser ilusórias, tanto no que se refere ao valor da elasticidade de substituição como à relação inversa entre quantidades e preços, no contexto de uma demanda de mão-de-obra.
