Niobium is considered a strategic material. It plays an important role in special steel and steel alloy productian woddwide. Brazil has a quasi-mcnopob over niobium supply. Many industrialized countries consider themselves highly vulnerable to possible cartel actions. This paper analyses the behavior of niobium market. It is argued that any attempt to disrupt the market will affect the confidence of consumers in the short run. In the long ran, the effect of either restriction of supply or increase of price would be diluted due to competition coming from substitute supply.
