Aumento da participação feminina: uma tentativa de explicação

Female age specific participation rates have been rising steadily in the State of Sao Paulo. A similar tendency has been observed for the country as a whole and for other countries as well. Short-term explanations do not seem to be able to account for the persistence of the phenomenon in the long run, through successive periods of boom and depression. Some explanation of a different sort seems to be called for. This paper focusses on the changes the productive structure has been undergoing as a possible explanation for the rise of female activity rates.
