Early childhood education effect on children’s vocabulary

Abstract

Este artigo analisa o efeito de um programa de educação infantil sobre o vocabulário das crianças. Usando dados de Petrolina coletados em 2016, crianças que frequentam pré-escola ou creche são comparadas com crianças que estão fora da escola. Para lidar com o viés de seleção, foram utilizadas informações advindas de um questionário aplicado junto aos pais que permitiram a geração de variáveis de controle associadas a características que usualmente não são observadas pelo pesquisador e que são potencialmente correlacionadas com frequência escolar e desenvolvimento infantil. Os resultados apontam efeitos positivos e significantes em vocabulário expressivo. Há ainda evidência de que a frequência à escola surte mais efeito para crianças com baixa exposição à leitura em casa.
