A situação do setor de bens de capital e suas perspectivas

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Brazilian capital goods industry, focusing on its power to face a stronger competitive environment, as it is proposed in the new industrial policy of the Brazilian economy. Two indicators of technologycal performance were constructed, which showed that this industry is relatively well prepared for the opening of Brazilian economy. The major threats to the capital goods industry are the macroeconomic instability and the effects of a possible prolonged recession.
