Abstract

In 2012, a strong police apparatus was employed in the evacuation of Pinheirinho, an area of São José dos Campos inhabited by about 1700 families. After protests, former residents began to receive social rent, with the government promising to deliver a housing project by 2014. Only 2 years later, 17 kilometers from the city center, Pinheirinho dos Palmares (PP) was inaugurated, a housing complex that former residents of Pinheirinho received. The school inaugurated on the premises served only elementary school students, and was the scene of frequent episodes of tension. In April 2018, a Free Conference was held where children and young people from the community were heard about problems and desires; the young discourse was recorded through the elaboration of a collective line, created under the guidance of a teacher/writer. The present work starts from this written production to present and evaluate the discourse of the young residents of the PP.
