Abstract

This article consists in the theoretical reflection about community concepts, space, territory used and place, from a general understanding on the problematic of unequal urbanization and socio-spatial segregation of peri-urban communities, and empirical research carried out in the Comunidade Lagoa Azul 2, in Jacareí, SP, Brazil. For the purpose of validate the perspective of concrete humanism, ponder over on the need to establish and strengthening of the community's resistance force and the emergence of potentials of organization of the residents to face and overcome the difficulties of life on the outskirts of – places neglected by the State and socially stigmatized – and natural conflicts coming from the communal coexistence.
