Abstract

This paper aims to raise a reflection about the growth of Batalha dos MC´s in the city of Sao Paolo, starting from the premise that such cultural events are configured as a recent urban phenomenon in the history of the Brazilian Hip Hop movement, but bringing the discussion to the context of the city. The idea is to show through a project experience report on the project Rinha dos MC´s, how the Battles constitute alternative spaces for the politicization of life and creation of identity, while acting in the fight against prejudice and social stigma. I systematized the following materials as a source of problematization: the facility to the access by the profound interaction in the field; reports of experiences through events; transcript of interviews from the web series I accomplished about Batalhas dos MC´s in the city of Sao Paulo and theoretical debates starting from the bibliography about Urban Anthropology and studies about Hip Hop.
