Synonymy in terms concerning the global economic crisis: some reflections

The article aims to present a study about the synonymy between terms related to the world economic crisis. It is a work which results from a project (Projeto Capes/DGU 297/13) done in an association between University of São Paulo and University of Vigo entitled “Cultural and didactic values in the metaphor of speciality: the multiples images of the world economic crisis in the printing press”, coordinated by Prof. Ieda Maria Alves (USP) and Prof. Iolanda Galanes Santos (University of Vigo). In this article, considering part of the study corpus of the Project as basis, there was the analysis of some terms formed with the term crisis that presented relations of synonymy with others in order to verify how the usage of different denominations bring implications and differences in the way of understanding concepts, which proves the theory of Baldinger (1970), which says that the affirmation that the absolute synonymy is present in terminologies is questionable.Downloads
