Abstract

This article is part of a broader investigación on the consequences of syntactic doubling in the Gammar of Medieval Portuguese. In the first part I deal with several types of syntactic doubling: doubling and repetition, doubling and topicalization, doubled Personal, Possessive, Demonstrative, Locative and Temporal pronouns, doubled Quantifiers and Complementizers. Following I study the consequences of doubling in the grammaticalization of Latin inde > Medieval Portuguese ende, a lexical item which operated in the early documents as a sentence constituent, a discoursive nexus, a topic introducer and finally, in the period of Contemporary Portuguese, as the contrajunctive conjonction porém
