Abstract

The objective of this article is to present a first approach to a representative sample of short essays written by successful applicants in the first part of the fuvest/2006 college entrance exam. Our focus is on the conditions in which they were produced; the relationship between prior instruction and the texts produced; stereotypes and social representations present in the texts. Partial results indicate that while trying to fulfill the expectations of the examining institution, the applicants lack  school experience based on a discursive concept of language.
