This article examines aspects of the socio-functionalist paradigm, an approach that fuses, within the study of variation and change, theoretical and methodological hypotheses of Variationist Sociolinguistics and of Functionalism. Two studies illustrate the sociofuncionalist process for data analysis: in the first, with synchronic treatment, we highlight future tense expression with gerundive periphrases; in the second, from a diachronic perspective, we address the grammaticalization and variation of the present perfect.
