As reformas ortográficas da língua portuguesa: uma análise histórica, lingüística e ideológica

Abstract

In Brazil, the nineteenth century is marked by significant political, social and economic changes. In that context, due to nationalist feelings with regard to political independence, language matters lead to discussion aiming at linguistic independence, and, in consequence, orthographic independence. This paper, which is part of a research project of wider scope, focuses on such questions, which reflect the 19th.-century Brazilian´s search for a linguistic identity.
