Geographies official and invisible in Brazil: some references

Abstract

The article uses the cartographic and photographic languages to express fundamental aspects of Geographies “Official” and “Unofficial” existing in Brazil in a historical perspective. A focus is given on the African Brazil, secularly excluded from the Official Geography, as an explicit example of the distinct and parallel geographies, that because there is a secular conviviality not assumed, governed by a geopolitics of invisibility. The increasing decline in prestige of Geography in power structures; the gramentário model t o address the geographic and cartographic demands of the country, as well as the biased dominant social thought with regard to African headquarters in the territory and the Brazilian people, are the basic obstacles the lack of an articulated geographical policy in Brazil and the mitigation of prejudice and geographical background stereotypes.
