From 2002, with the increase in loans and the strategic reorientation of the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), the Brazilian multinational companies received the support of the in its international expansion strategies, through the subscription of shares on the stock exchange and expansion of loans to the export of engineering goods and services. Several studies have examined this increased participation of the BNDES, among them is noteworthy the recovery of Brazilian sub-imperialism thesis, developed in the 1970s by Marini. This article aims is to outline the main propositions of the Brazilian sub-imperialism thesis and its analytical ability to explain the different cycles of internationalization of Brazilian companies and the role played by the BNDES in the productive internationalization of Brazilian companies. The main conclusions of this work – factual, theoretical and procedural – bring elements to think about the thesis of Brazilian sub-imperialism and its ability to reveal the contemporary processes of multi-territorial expansion of Brazilian private capital. The methodological procedures consisted in the bibliographical collection, selection and reading, collection of secondary data in UNCTAD databases (investment flows and stocks) and BNDES (disbursements by financing lines), analysis and systematization of the data in the light of bibliographical references.
