The purpose of the present work was to study and analyze the distribution and variability of precipitation in the Paraná river basin, in a period that includes the years from 1970 to 2014, using daily data in grid point, a set of data available for South America which help to improve understanding of the variability of spatial precipitation. This data set is public and the file format is NetCDF, selected for cross-platform compatibility and incorporation of grid coordinates and other useful metadata, available on the Earth System website Research Laboratory. The aim of this study was to understand the variability of precipitation in the study area by daily and monthly concentration using two statistical indexes applied to Climatology: the Concentration Index (CI), daily quantification, and the Concentrated Precipitation Index (CPI), quantification, both calculated in software R. The studied region presented a climate with marked variability and susceptibility to extreme flood events, especially in the southern end of the basin, where the daily concentration of precipitation is intense, CI = 0,64.
