Abstract

Rigor and method are indispensable in the research and require the permanent exercise of doing options. When we needed to consider a fact, a phenomenon or a process many questions arise. This paper presents some general observations on the concepts that give support to the discussion of the city and urban concepts. Insofar as the concepts are expressed through the language, it discusses firstly the words city and urban in the portuguese language. Afterwards, it investigates on the subject of from when we can speak in urban in Brazil detaching that that answer locates in the interpretation that is assumed concerning the Brazilian development. As conclusion affirms that the concepts and theories are immanent each other.
