Three legged historical movement, Technology, Social relations, Built environment, Globalization.Abstract
Technological progress, social relations and the social building of geographical environments are presented as vectors of systems of social practices, instances in multiple and constant interactions. Interactions inside each vector and interactions between the vectors which appear as sustaining a three legged movement of history. To Geography, the built environment and its relations with the others vectors are of particular interests. The text presents some pictures related to different modes of production or economic social formations. For instance, when the introduction of the caravel increased the shift to mercantilism and brought the social ascension of merchants and bankers, one saw the growth of port cities and the formation of the Hanseatic League. One of the described pictures refers to the present globalization.Downloads
