Financial capital and agriculture: a debate about the theoretical bases of interpretation

The article discusses the theoretical bases for the analysis of financial capital in agriculture at its current stage. The engine of this new period is the union of banking capital with large industrial groups. Capital mergers have reduced sectoral differences, creating huge conglomerates that act at the same time in all areas related to agriculture: financing, international trade in commodities, production of inputs, biotechnological research, industrialization of agricultural products, among others. The main themes of research are: mergers and acquisitions of agribusiness and food industry, denationalisation of the sector, new private financing mechanisms, the role of commodities and futures exchanges, large tradings agriculture
