This paper presents an interpretation of Muratori´s treatise according to the theory of cultural transformations of Marshall McLuhan, author of The Gutenberg Galaxy: The Making of Typographic Man. In the middle of the eighteenth century, Muratori considered the Juesuit´s utopia of Paraguay, which began in 1609, a pure expression of modernity, intended in the "typographic" sense. He appreciated the work of the Jesuits not only for the conversion to Christianity of the indigenous people, but also for the didactic work spent on their literacy and cultural emancipation.Downloads
