Most of the variations of constructions which affect the use of a large number of verbs in the 17th century (such as essayer à Inf/essayer de Inf) evolve towards fixation in a single complement structure. This diachronic study examines in particular the regression of variations in verbs marking the course of the action, verbs expressing refusal and saying verbs. We investigate to what extent verbs tend to stabilize in the same construction of verbs of similar meaning. In addition, we analyze the historical and syntactic factors which favor the reduction of the number of schemas.
