InterviewAbstract
This interview took place in February 2022 via videoconference. The aim was to learn more about Sophie Moirand's academic background, her relationship to Latin America, and the development of Comparative Discourse Analysis, an approach she contributed to establish. Moirand argues that the comparative perspective can be considered as methodologically constructed according to each object of study rather than as a perspective with completely settled theories and possibilities. With good humor and extreme generosity in sharing her knowledge and experience, she transforms the interview into a real conversation, a rich and interesting exchange that begins even before the questions are asked. We discover, right from the start, that her academic path began in the area of French as a Foreign Language (FLE), which was responsible for her first contact with Latin America. It was also the driving force that led her to Discourse Analysis. We will see, thus, how her academic path is intertwined with her initial professional experiences, such as her early interest in journalistic/media discourse in Algiers, Algeria. We also note that the construction of an academic path was not easier before than it is today.
