Abstract

This paper seeks to understand what has led Iran from being an "ally" to an "enemy" of the United States. It seeks to understand how hostilities that existed only between Iran and the United States were produced as a "threat" to the entire "international community." The breaking point between these nations occurred, according to the American vision, in 1979 with the so-called Iranian Revolution - and, consequently, with the hijacking of the American embassy in Iran -, in contrast to the moment of rupture of this relationship in Iran. Iranian vision came in 1953 with the coup d'état that ousted Prime Minister Muhammad Mossadeq. This paper attempts to denaturalize this “threatening” image that Iran has in the “international community,” which creates the conditions of possibility for violent practices directed at that state. For this purpose, postcolonial theory will be used, since the postcolonial authors believe that the economic domination of the West over the East, made possible mainly by colonialism, was able to encompass the cultural domination of these people.
