Even in contexts of greater advancement in gender equality and with products that challenge stereotypes, advertising tends to reassert the hegemonic since it privileges profit in detriment of social transformation. This may imply a choice for patriarchal communication strategies, even if hybrid, contributing to the perpetuation of violences. To illustrate this, the article applied both critical discourse and semiotics analysis in five posters of the advertising campaign “It’s manly!”, launched by the L’Oréal brand in Portugal.
