Representative and Presentative Strategies among the Enawene-Nawe

In recent years, successive damaging blows inflicted upon the population and the environment have profoundly transformed the social life of the Enawene-Nawe. Faced with growing demands and impositions coming from within and outside the borders of their territory, the Enawene-Nawe have put into action strategic forms of participating in the regional political and economic arena, in order to defend their rights and interests. The purpose of this article is double-fold: on the one hand, it highlights these forms of participation in the periphery of capitalism and, on the other hand, it reflects upon the instrumentality of the contrast between the notions of representation and presentation within the horizons of this particular case.
