Healing Curatorship: New Worlds for Anthropology in Museums

Ethnographic collections, ethnographic museums, curatorshipAbstract
This article reconstructs three anthropological projects involving the collection of the Ethnographic Museum of the Banco de la República in Leticia, in the Colombian Amazon. Through an analysis of the trajectory of the museum-making process, the article introduces the idea that the curatorship of this type of collection may itself become an object of healing—an Amerindian mode of thought and practice that has a strong presence among the Indigenous communities of this Colombian border city. Each project shows how considerations concerning the interaction between Amerindian concepts and museological expectations are gradually transformed and expanded, ultimately leading to the proposal of healing curatorship.
