This article is an introduction to the concept of non-rival commons. It defines and compares two kinds of commons (rival and non-rival), suggesting that Portuguese language can be understood as an example of a non-rival commons. Then it proposes that non-rival commons are related to important social and cultural transformations that are beginning to take place; and explores that relationship in the view of four aspects: 1) the potentiation of these commons by means of digital technology; 2) the role Internet plays in the spreading of goods from these commons; 3) the advance in academic studies on these commons; 4) the possibility of interaction between these commons and politics.Downloads
