Abstract

An estimated 2.5 million deaths worldwideeach year are due to alcohol consumption.The International Agency for CancerResearch of the World Health Organizationhas recognized alcohol as a cancer-causingagent to humans. Alcohol consumptionis known to be associated with an increasedrisk of oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal,esophageal, liver, colorectal and femalebreast cancers. Because of its high incidence,breast cancer is the leading cancerattributable to alcohol among women.Moreover, the estimates have identifiedalcohol consumption as responsible for5.2% of all cancer deaths among men and1.7% among women worldwide.
