The spatialities of marginal and the urban: the example of São Domingos do Campim (PA) and the development of the tourism

Abstract

The present article establishes reflections about the repercussions of the tourist activity in an Amazonian City. Throughout its development in the local space, the tourism, exploring the image of an Amazonia that congregates adventures, myths and legends, through the phenomenon of "pororoca", has provoked social and space's changes in the daily's activities of the place.The research used the space dialectic (Lefebvre, 1981) as a reflection of the space production, in relation to the involved agents: local population, tourist, sponsors, government of the State of Pará and local public power. The results disclosed to have different conceptions and intentions in relation to the insertion of the tourism in the City, prioritizing the urban style of life, what conflicted with the dimension of the usual life of the population of São Domingos do Capim.
