In this article, the beginning of commercial leisure hospitality is related to the formation of tourist equipment in Farroupilha, in Serra Gaúcha and the implementation of the railway. This condition is justified from the first leisure hotel, in the current Touristic Uva e Vinho Region, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, called Veraneio Desvio Blauth, object of this study. Therefore, the objective is to describe the role of the lodging sector and its historical importance as proto-tourist equipment, its operation and the importance of the railway in defining the tourist territory, currently known as Serra Gaúcha. To justify, the understanding of its regional and territorial context is reinforced, qualifying spatially and identifying it as a tourist location. At this time, the area had its formation and pioneering structure of accommodation associated with a rural environment, mountain and bucolic climate. Its peak is directly linked to the use of the railway as a means of access. The present study comprises the period in which the tourism enterprise operated, from 1920 to the mid-1950s. The methodology is a case study, with a qualitative and descriptive approach, with documentary research techniques and interviews. It is concluded that the Blauth family has a role in the installation and operation of the equipment, observing its territorial changes, with the introduction of an activity different from agriculture practiced by descendants of Italian and German immigrants, favored mainly by the railway. The research indicates to its dependence on access by rail, in addition to succession factors of the enterprise, which led to the end of activities.
