The present article discusses, simultaneously, the conceptual pertinence of the term religious tourism and the empiric capacity of this activity in generating business and, therefore, in producing social and economic development. If by one side, the concept reveals itself fragile, by another the business opportunities still remain few explored by business men, tourismprofessionals and governments.
