Abstract

This interview was accomplished with professor and scientist Bernardo Boris Vargaftig in occasion of the publication of his translation into Portuguese of  Ma Vie, French version of Leon Trotsky’s autobiography, which culminated with the celebrations of the centenary of  1917 Russian Revolution. Boris Vargaftig was born in Argentina in 1937, but spent most of his life in Brazil, where he graduated in medicine at USP in 1963. At the time, a Trotskyist militant, professor Vargaftig was arrested by military police, but was released 52 days later. Invited by Professor Oswaldo Vital Brazil to participate in the founding of the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of UNICAMP, for political reasons, this appointment did not materialize. In face of political persecutions, which would certainly affect his professional career, he moved to France where he worked at the Pasteur Institute and Merrell International Research Center, developing researches in the field of Pharmacology that put him on the verge of 1982 Nobel Prize for Medicine.
