Abstract

The present article analyzes the initiatives of coercion to conversion of the devadasis - of the concani Servas de Deus - in the context of the Portuguese colonization in Goa between 1567-1606. The devadasis appeared in specific topics in the official documents that sought to impose conducts, behaviors and disciplinations to the local populations of Goa. Considered public women and associated with lasciviousness, the devadasis were targets of the initiatives of imposition of the Portuguese customs and the Christian faith by the ecclesiastical and regal authorities.

    Discente regularmente matriculada no curso de pós-graduação em História(Doutorado) da UFRRJ/Seropédica e integrante do grupo de leitura coordenado pelo Laboratório de Mundos Ibéricos (LAMI). Tem experiência na área de História, precisamente História Moderna com estudos sobre as Relações de gênero no Estado da Índia. Atualmente dedica-se aos estudos sobre as sociedades nativas "menores" e as iniciativas adotadas pela Igreja e pela Coroa portuguesa a fim de converter e doutrinar os meninos em Goa.
