EM TORNO DO FIM: GOA TARDO-COLONIAL NO CICLO DE CONTOS MONÇÃO (1963) DE VIMALA DEVI

Resumo

Neste artigo, analisamos Monção (1963) da escritora goesa Vimala Devi como um ciclo de contos, ou seja, um género que difere tanto do romance tradicional quanto da coletânea não integrada de curtas narrativas, alvitrando que esta afiliação genérica torna possível uma peculiar representação de Goa tardo-colonial. Apoiando-nos em várias teorizações das características desse género, esmiuçamos as interligações e rupturas presentes neste ciclo, concluindo que é essa oscilação entre forças centrípetas e centrífugas que perfazem o retrato de uma sociedade unida por suas divisões.

Biografia do Autor

  • Paul Melo e Castro, University of Glasgow

    Paul Melo e Castro possui graduação em Francês e Português pela Universidade de Birmingham (2000), mestrado em Literatura Europeia pela Universidade de Cambridge (2003) e doutorado em Estudos Portugueses pela mesma Universidade (2008). Foi Leverhulme Early Career Fellow pela Universidade de Leeds (2009-2011) antes de ficar efectivo como Lecturer na mesma instituição. Atua nas áreas de literatura, cinemas e artes visuais do mundo lusófono. No momento, tem por foco dois núcleos de pesquisa: um voltado para a literatura de língua portuguesa de Goa, outro voltado para a representação fotográfica de cidades lusófonas. É autor do livro: Shades of Grey: 1960s Lisbon in Novel, Film and Photobook (2011).
