In “Captura” (2014) Hélia Correia mentions that the narrative is inspired by Clarice Lispector’s short fiction. Lispector’s “A Imitação da Rosa” (1960), in turn, has been associated with Charlotte Perkin Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” (1892). Similarly to Gilman’s and Lispector’s narratives Correia’s short story focuses on representations of gender, the role of women in society and the depiction of women in literature. The dialogue between these narratives evinces the relationships a text may have with prior texts and can be interpreted as parody. The thematic and formal features of the selected narratives also shed light on the world literary form of the short story as a protean form mastered by Lispector and Correia.
