Olavo Bilac, Portugal, ChronicAbstract
Considered one of the most outstanding Brazilian intellectuals from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, Olavo Bilac maintained a close relationship with Portugal, a country he visited on at least in three occasions. An admirer of Eça de Queiroz, with whom he shared the pages of the Rio de Janeiro newspaper Gazeta de Notícias, Bilac had close contact with many Portuguese intellectuals, of whom he was a loquacious interlocutor. We find records of this chronicler's relationship with Portugal and with the Portuguesesq in newspapers and magazines published on both sides of the Atlantic, whose texts show us that Olavo Bilac was considered an authentic spokesman for Luso-Brazilian journalism.
