THE WORKS CAPITÃES DA AREIA, BY THE BRAZILIAN WRITER JORGE AMADO (1937), AND MARGINAIS, BY THE CAPE-VERDEAN EVEL ROCHA (2010), HAVE SIMILARITIES CONCERNING THE ISSUES OF VIOLENCE AND MARGINALIZATION, WITH CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AS VICTIMS. IN THIS PAPER , I ESTABLISH SOME POINTS OF CONTACT BETWEEN THE LITERATURES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, EMPHASIZING THE CHARACTERS’ TRAITS AND THE SOCIAL SITUATION DEPICTED ON BOTH NOVELS.
