Three thoughts on the politics of death and a public figure

The study starts from the realization of an academic live, in which the performance of the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro during the first half of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, in 2020, was debated. The digital event, promoted in August of that year by the Graduate Program of Communication and Power of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, brought together three intellectuals: the researcher and professor Vera Regina Veiga França, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais and the Portuguese researchers and professors João Carlos Correia, from the University of Beira Interior, and Vítor de Sousa, from the University of Minho. In the light of a humanist view, the debaters analyzed Bolsonaro’s performance, in his actions and omissions, his contempt for the life of the other and his responsibility for the Brazilians who died in the pandemic.
