Abstract

Many media possibilities have set to motion the tradition foreign communities press in Brazil, specially the one targeting the Japanese community in the country. This paper shows different cognitive strategies used by writers and readers in order to relate with the texts of these media. Considering the linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge, this work reflects on how the members of theses communities negotiate their identities and how they live as citizens in the country in which they live in.
