Calcificação heterotópica em lesão medular

Esta revisão aborda o tema calcificação heterotópica (CH) associada à lesão medular. Há dados recentes sobre sua incidência, etiologia, quadro clínico, meios diagnósticos, prevenção e tratamento. Apesar de não estar clara sua etiologia e de existirem controvérsias quanto ao seu tratamento, é certo que com o diagnóstico precoce e instituição da terapia adequada pode-se bloquear total ou parcialmente o processo de ossificação. Caso não seja feito o diagnóstico precoce e tratamento, a CH pode evoluir para anquilose associado ou não a prejuízos funcionais altamente incapacitantes.
