In this article, artist, curator and educator Claudinei Roberto da Silva entwines personal experience, historical reconstruction and social analyses, and paints a picture of the presence of black people in Brazilian culture, art institutions, educational system, among others. Through this weaving, the author recollects contributions such as the ones from Clóvis Moura, Abdias do Nascimento, Lélia Gonzalez, Emanoel Araujo, Sidney Amaral, Kabengele Munanga, and the Unified Black Movement. Therefore, da Silva reveals the accomplishments achieved through anti-racist demands on social justice, at the same time he punctuates the deadlocks and contradictions still inflicted in this process, without losing sight of the utopian horizon of action.
