The Zionist settler colonial project of Israel encompasses all of historic Palestine and the ongoing genocide in Gaza is the most blatant form of the continued ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people and their replacement by Israeli Jews. This work focuses on the city of Occupied East Jerusalem, pointing to the intensification of colonial practices imposed on the daily life of the Palestinian population whose goals are ethnic cleansing and Judaization of the city. From an experience I had in January 2024 I discuss an account of the colonial practices of 'unchilding', and surveillance imposed on the daily life, the mundane, of a Palestinian adolescent. Opposing this project is the 'Sumud', a term that synthesizes the (r)existence and resistance of the Palestinian people in response to colonial techniques that intend their erasure and expulsion from their land.
