Abstract

This article explores the trajectory of the Black guitar in Brazil, highlighting its influence on the formation of Brazilian popular music. The study identifies how the guitar became a central instrument in the expression of Afro-Brazilian culture, showcasing the contribution of Black musicians in shaping a unique Brazilian musical identity. Additionally, the article discusses the role of the guitar as a tool for resistance and cultural affirmation, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and valuing the legacy of Black artists in the history of music in Brazil.

Author Biography

  • Diego Jandira, Unifesp

    Graduated in Social Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP). He works as a researcher on the Brazilian Black Guitar project, dedicated to valuing Afro-Brazilian musical heritage. Since 2021, he has been a culture columnist at the Institute for the Reform of Relations between Business and State (IREE), where he writes about art, music, and society. His work combines critical reflection and cultural engagement, highlighting the connections between politics, aesthetics, and Brazilian identity.
