The paper proposes reading Augusto Monterroso’s diary La letra e: fragmentos de un diario under the ideas of identity, time and privacy as the basis of the diary’s practice. Monterroso’s approach constantly questions the function of literature and shows his image as a figure in constant motion. Thus, the diary is the ideal means to carry out this project. The ideas of identity, time and privacy are fundamental, once the diary’s practice comes out of the relation between them. The author presents these ideas in order to take them, reflect on their importance or criticize them.
