This article aims to analyze the book El Juego de la Viola, by Guillermo Rosales (1946-1993), considering certain identity issues (social) and different traumatic reproductions of childhood (family) inserted in the meta-fictional context of the Caribbean writer’s work. As a methodological strategy, descriptive methods and bibliographical character were used. The concept of violence and trauma was based on Arendt’ (2003, 2005) thought, Dorfman (1972), Assmann (2011) and Butler (2003, 2015), whereas the discussion on the autobiographical space and Rosales’ work were based on Martínez’ (2003, 2007, 2015), Simal’s (2012, 2017), Vila’s (2015) and Alfonso’s (2015) works and, finally, the suicide in the historical Cuban-context narratives takes the thought of Cabrera Infante’s (2015). So, in the novel, it was possible to apprehend certain autobiographical marks, refering to Rosales’ self-destructive path, fragmented according to the geographical, psychological and creative aspects. Also the presence of a violent in memory stands out, with recurring allusions to torture, to suicide and to death associated with individual, filial and social spaces.
