As of the second half of the 20th century, in Latin America, the migration of people to the big city brought forth an overpopulation and heterogeneous sociocultural spaces, where inhabitants have different ways of living, representing and identifying themselves with the urban space. In this perspective, our goal is to analyze the representation of the city of Cali, Colombia, in the novel ¡Que viva la música! (1977), by Colombian writer Andrés Caicedo, taking into account the expressions, feelings, and socialization of the characters in relation to each of the spaces of the city. In our analysis, it became clear that the novel is marked by an "aesthetic narrative of displacement" that occurs in several levels: geographical (from North to South of the city); the characters' discourse (daily life speech, idiomatic and colloquial expressions of the upper class to the speech of inhabitants of peripheral areas) and in music genre (from rock to salsa).
